Mounted on vintage 78 LP record jackets, they celebrate the details found in the aged & worn surfaces.
The "Structured Fragments" series of collages celebrates papers and their textures, using raw found papers with worn edges, folds, tears, and scratches, mixed with broken and discarded found objects. Mounted on vintage 78 LP record jackets, they celebrate the details found in the aged & worn surfaces. I am drawn to the lines, marks, and measurements that artists make to prepare & plan out the hanging and installation of their artwork. I discovered a plethora of remnants of these artists’ markings at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts and incorporated printed photographs of these into this series. As collage leverages pre-existing materials into new works of art, many of the raw materials used in these pieces would otherwise be discarded, adding to our ever-expanding landfill and sustainability problems. |
